Summary:

The aim of the project is to increase the chances of Roma children in Hanušovice to achieve at least a secondary education and to improve public acceptance of Roma families in the region.

A mediator will be created at the primary school to support communication between Roma families and the school. The social pedagogue of the primary school will supplement his education with therapeutic training focused on working with children and families. A social worker will also be involved to provide support to children and families in their transition to secondary school.

The project also aims to improve mutual understanding of the offerings and demands of the primary school on parents and respect for the choices and families. Furthermore, it will enable families to spend time together outside of their normal environment and establish informal relationships with staff from partner organisations, while bringing Roma culture to the public and bringing a new perspective on Roma families in the region.

The expected benefit of the project is to reduce tensions and misunderstandings between Roma families and other residents of the region. And increase the number of children from Roma families who will do well in primary school and continue their education in secondary school.
